Defense Grid 2 is the direct sequel to the original game that established the series, Defense Grid (2008).

Developed by Hidden Path Entertainment, the game was published by Hidden Path for the PC versions, with the console versions being published by 505 Games.

The Xbox One version of the game was used and played extensively for this review.

Firmly established in the Tower Defense genre, DG2â€ēs greatest strengths are a combo of the seriously dedicated team of developers who worked very hard to make the sequel a reality, and its Old School approach to both the game style and intent.

Thanks to its solid grounding within its genre – to the extent that it eschewed the trend to add into Tower Defense games extra fluff and content that often leads to a blurring of the lines, sneaking them into the Action-Adventure category, DG2 stays true to the vision of its developers.

To be clear, the game does not suffer from the illness of wanting to take in more than it is supposed to. As a result it is one of the most perfect Tower Defense games to come along in a very long time.

If you can handle those superlative declarations, bear with us, because there is more to the story here than just a bit of over-excitement from a games reviewer.
